The Legacy of JSS Law College in Legal Education
JSS Law College, established in 1982 as part of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, has a rich history of pioneering legal education in India. Initially offering a three-year law program affiliated with the University of Mysore, the college expanded its offerings in 1984 to include the five-year integrated BAL LL.B program, a rarity at the time in Indian universities. This innovative approach to legal education was embraced by the University of Mysore, which granted the college permanent affiliation in 1995. In 1998, the college achieved a significant milestone by being included under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, a recognition of its commitment to providing quality education. The UGC granted autonomy to JSS Law College in 2005, making it the first law college in Karnataka to achieve this status.
